Shepherd's Ridge is a
dog training facility, but we frequently have customers ask us
what products we recommend.
I hate to make personal recommendations on
the chance that other people might not like a product as well as I do, but here
is a partial list of things that we personally use for our dogs. Many of these
objects are available from suppliers other than the ones listed below, so please
feel free to do an internet search to look for the best bargains.
I'm sure this list will be updated
frequently as we try new products, or our dogs find a new 'favorite' toy.
Please feel free to let us know how you
like these items, and if there are other things that you think we should add to
our inventory.

Training
Products

Thumb Leads are my absolute favorite
lead. I use these on all of my dogs all the time. They force the handler to
get into the habit of holding the lead properly, and they are absolutely the
softest leather lead I've ever seen. No break-in period is necessary, they're
butter soft and supple from the first time you use it.

Snap-Around Training Collar from
Handcraft Collars, Inc. A great training collar for those inclined to use a
choker style collar. Choker style collars must be placed just below the dog's
jaw, as high up on the neck as possible and should not be large enough
that they can slide out of position and down the dog's neck. This collar
allows for the best possible fit because you do not need to push the collar on
over the dog's head.

 |
Cotton Web All Purpose Lead from
Handcraft Collars, Inc. This is a good, inexpensive lead for obedience
training work.
|
 |
Nylon Dog Collars from Schatzi's
Treasures are inexpensive, high-quality nylon adjustable collars with quick
release buckles. These are the collars we use most of the time in our classes
as well as on our own personal dogs.

 |
Nylon Leads / Leashes from Schatzi's
Treasures are nylon leads that are 6' long and 1" wide. They coordinate nicely
with the collars listed above. |

Grooming
Products
 |
Zoom Groom is a dog brush that works
well on dogs with short to medium coats. It massages the dog as it's soft
rubber 'fingers' remove loose hair.
|
 |
Mat Raker Brush, Comb, & Rake by
Imaginetics does an absolutely wonderful job on plush shepherd coats and
longer haired dogs. When brushed gently through the dogs coat, it separates
the shed hair from the guard hairs and allows it to be removed with a minimum
of pulling and tugging on the dog's coat.
|
 |
MatBreaker Dematting Tool is a specially
designed tool that actually rakes out mats using six stainless steel blades.
It does minimal damage to the coat while removing mats or burrs from the coat.
|
 |
Suave Humectant Conditioner is
absolutely wonderful on a dog's coat! Yep, that's the same Suave conditioner
that you can get for people. We got this tip from an absolutely wonderful
Collie breeder and this is what she uses on her dogs coats. She puts about 2
finger's worth of conditioner in a spray bottle, then fills it with water and
sprays it lightly over the dog's coat before brushing. It allows the brush to
glide through the coat with minimal damage to the hair and no static. Thanks Collie Diva!

Toys and Other
Stuff
 |
Kong Toys what can I say... probably the
best puppy pacifier available. Many different shapes and styles are available.
Stuff them with kibble, cheese, biscuits, peanut butter or cream cheese and a
Kong will help to keep your dog busy and out of trouble. |
